Gangnam-gu
Close to center Bus Metro
Quintessentially South Korean, Gangnam is know for being trendy and upscale. Just south of the river, this area has no shortage of restaurants, cafes, shopping centers and other amenities. It is popular among expats and has a strong international vibe. Its great transportation connections, diversity and accessibility make it a favorite for remote workers.
Itaewon-dong
Close to center Bus Metro
An international hub. Itaewon has the city's best English schools and clinics and it is where you are most likely to find another foreigner. Great restaurants, bars and shopping centers define this area. With mostly villas and single family homes, this is a popular places for expats. Prices will be higher in this part of town. As the rest of the city, Itaewon is very well connected through public transportation.
Hannam-dong
Close to center Bus Metro
This central neighborhood is just across the river from Gangnam and is extremely popular among diplomats and expats family. The area is relative exclusive and expensive but has turned increasingly trendy and popular in recent years. Housing in this area is mostly in large houses and tends to be on the pricier side. The area i quieter and less crowded than much of the rest of Seoul and there is a good general level of English.
Jung-gu
Central Bus Metro
This the city's main Historical Center and true center of the city. It is defined by the city's main skyscrapers but also by magnificent Korean and European architecture. It is close to all the main attractions of the city, as well as good restaurants and bars. The area is very well connected via public transportation to the rest of the city. Housing options here might be more expensive as a result of its centrality.
Apgujeong-dong
Close to center Bus Metro
Located on the southern banks of the Han river, this upscale and trend-setting area is home to South Korea's most exclusive fashion boutiques and stores, particularly along Apgujeong Rodeo Street. It is centrally located and the area enjoys some of the city's best upscale restaurants and bars. Rental properties in this area will come at higher prices, because of the central and famous nature of the area.
Heukseok-dong
Away from center Bus Metro
Less known among Seoulites and Expats is Heukseok, located just south of the Han River. Rental properties tend to be cheaper in this area since it is not strictly in the center of the city, although very well connected via public transportation. The area is defined by the views it provides of the mountains and the Han River, and its many small restaurants and cafes. Prices here are more affordable and the area is generally quieter, although there is less of an international vibe than in the rest of the city.
Hongdae-Mapo
Close to center Bus Metro
This area is a big university town. It feels young and diverse, and the level of English is generally good. Located in the vibrant Mapo-gu, the area enjoys a good number of bars, restaurants and a vibrant nightlife scene. A big number of guesthouses in the area make it popular among short-term visitors but it is also popular among long-term visitors looking a more authentic experience of Seoul.
Ichon-dong
Away from center Bus Metro
Known as "Little Tokyo" for its large Japanese expat community, Ichon provides an authentic, alternative in central Seoul on the northern bank of the Han River. Large shopping centers, clothing stores and restaurants define this area. Most housing is in high-rise building complexes and prices in this area tend to be lower in West Ichon, whereas higher prices for luxury rentals are available in East Inchon.
