Despite Cyprus' reputation as a stable country, many will still ask "is Larnaca safe for Remote Workers?" Indeed, safety is one of the most important factors for remote workers to consider when choosing a new destination. This is likely to determine how comfortable you feel here and the ways in which you conduct yourself, as well as the places you visit across the city and the country. We can confirm, however, that Cyprus can be largely considered a safe country for remote workers, and the growing numbers of foreigners choosing Larnaca as a place to work and live is a testament to the city’s security infrastructure.

Before visiting Cyprus, we strongly recommend taking out a good health insurance policy. For EU Citizens, it is recommended you bring your European Health Insurance Card which will provide you with free healthcare at public hospitals only within the southern Greek side of the island. For those from outside the European Union, private health insurance is recommended since treatment at private clinics will require upfront payment and is much more expensive than in most northern and western European countries. On the whole, Cyprus is considered safe and disease-free, meaning you are unlikely to need specific vaccinations or jabs before your arrival unless you plan on being in regular contact with animals.

When it comes to crime, we can fortunately also say that Larnaca is safe for remote workers. The entirety of the southern, Greek side of Cyprus is considered to be safe for foreigners, with low crime rates and a reliable security infrastructure managed by local authorities and foreign embassies. If you do travel to the northern, Turkish side of Cyprus, you are advised to exercise extra caution since armed robberies can be more common here. Of course, you should also take your precautions in crowded, touristic spaces across the island where pickpockets might operate, as well as when spending money as you could be vulnerable to scams. Thankfully, most remote workers in Larnaca report no issues in the city and consider it largely safe.

Larnaca is safe for remote workers, but foreigners in general are advised to take care when enjoying the island’s nightlife. Firstly, be sure to do your research before going out to avoid being scammed out of your cash for a subpar club or bar service.

Secondly, you should always try to party with a group, particularly if you are a solo female traveler. Thirdly, it is always a good idea to stay away from drugs and prostitution since these can carry severe penalties in Cyprus. When heading home it’s always recommended catching a cab or walking with a group, if possible.

For female and LGBTQ+ remote workers, we can also gladly say that Larnaca is safe. Cyprus is generally an inclusive and modern country, and cities like Larnaca are used to welcoming diverse foreigners. Nonetheless, women and minorities are always advised to take extra care, when possible - solo female travelers should keep an eye on their drinks, particularly when partying in large clubs; and, while homosexuality is legal in Cyprus, LGBTQ+ individuals should know that it is not as widely here accepted as it may be in other parts of the world.
